The President (PT) his first visit to a settlement of the (landless rural workers movement) in his third term.
The trip to Campo do Meio, in southern Minas Gerais, 335 km from Belo Horizonte, is considered a gesture of approaching the president with the movement after a series of disagreements among its leaders with government representatives.
This Friday’s ceremony takes place at Eduardo Galeano School, rebuilt after being demolished in 2020, amid confrontations of the MST with the Military Police for the repossession at the Campo Grande Quilombo camp.
The government will be announced by the government of 12,297 lots in 138 settlements, including Quilombo Campo Grande, in 24 states of the country. Another highlight is the launch of the rural unfolding, recently released producer debt negotiation program.
“The act where there is perhaps the largest conflict for land in the country represents the resumption of the Brazilian State. This puts us again in a harmonious relationship with the government, but the MST has its autonomy,” says Silvio Netto, MST leader in Minas.
He avoided directing criticism of the Minister of Agrarian Development, (PT), and said the decision to exchange the head of the portfolio is up to the president.
As showed, Lula’s allies say that this Friday’s event could serve as a kind of thermometer of the minister’s permanence.

Invasions to Embrapa area
In 2023, in the first national day of land struggle and land reform (known as Red April) of the current management, the MST invaded a farm in Petrolina (PE) that belongs to (Brazilian Agricultural Research Company).

The Olga Benário Settlement in Tremembé (SP) in January this year brought the federal management closer to the members of the movement.
