Slovak politician, historian and archaeologist Dušan Čaplovič died on Thursday (6. 3.) in the evening. TASR informed his family. In the past, Čaplovič worked as Deputy Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic and the Minister of Education and was also Vice-Chairman of Smer-SD.

Dušan Čaplovič was born on September 18, 1946. He graduated from the Faculty of Arts of the Comenius University in Bratislava in 1969. Until 2002 he worked at the Institute of Archaeological Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS) in Nitra. From 1992 to 2001 he was a member of the Presidency of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava. From 2002 to 2012 he was repeatedly elected as a member of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, he held several positions in the government cabinet.

He was also the author of many professional publications in the field of history published in Slovakia and abroad.
