The Kremlin supports the Serbian authorities during current anti -government protests, said Serbian President Aleksandar Vučič on Friday after a call with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. According to Kremlin’s statement, Putin said in a call that external interference in the internal political situation in Serbia is unacceptable. According to reports of Reuters and AFP, TASR reports this.
Serbia has been undergoing a political and social crisis for more than three months. Anti -government protests were caused by the collapse of a concrete shelter above the entrance to the railway station in Novi Sad, where 15 people lost their lives. Much of the Serbs are convinced that the tragedy has contributed to the corruption of government officials, their laxity and insufficient supervision on the construction. The superstructure collapsed only a few months after the reconstruction of the building.
Vučič on Instagram said he spoke to Putin about an attempt to “color revolution”.
“I thanked him for not supporting Russian officials,” said Vučič.
Serbia is trying to membership in the European Union, but continues to maintain good relations with Russia. Belgrade has repeatedly condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but has so far refused to join Western sanctions against Moscow.
