The government reaffirms its feminist foreign policy and asks for the participation of women in countries like Syria
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation has issued a statement on the occasion of International Women’s Day in which it reaffirms its commitment to feminist foreign policy and with the defense of women’s rights and girls around the world, as well as the participation of women in countries that are going through conflicts or who are leaving them, as is the case of Syria.
“At an international moment in which women’s rights are attacked, it is more important than ever for the international community to work together to protect women and girls around the world,” says the Ministry statement headed by José Manuel Albares.
Likewise, it refuses that, through feminist cooperation, they will continue working to make possible the organization and effective participation of women in decision spaces; equitable access to health, education and employment; protection against all forms of violence and the defense of sexual and reproductive rights of all women and girls in the world.
“We will continue to support the participation of women in the processes of peace and post-conflict reconstruction, which guarantee that peace is lasting and sustainable,” he said to then mention this situation in terms of Palestinian, Syrian and Afghan women.
In addition, the Ministry has indicated that they will continue to promote the application of parity in the leadership and decision -making positions in the United Nations agencies and agencies and in other multilateral forums, from a human rights approach. “We will continue to drive in the United Nations field the initiative of gender rotation in the presidency of the General Assembly, as well as the next candidate for the General Secretariat is finally a woman,” the statement rises.
In a broader plane, the Ministry has stressed that this 2025 is celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Action Platform and the 25th Anniversary of the Women’s Agenda, Peace and Security of the United Nations: “Instruments that have contributed to the advances in gender equality of recent years”, claims the letter, although it points to the time that “there is still much to do”.
