The Algarve reaffirms its prominent position in the national gastronomic scene, keeping seven restaurants distinguished with Michelin stars in the 2025 edition of the prestigious guide. This recognition underlines the region’s culinary excellence, which continues to attract alte gastronomy lovers from around the world.
The algarve restaurants that maintain their distinctions are:
Two Michelin stars:
Ocean (Chef Hans Neuner, Alporchinhos, Porches)
Vila Joya (Chef Dieter Koschina, Albufeira)
A Michelin Star:
Seeing Tavira (Chef Luís Brito, Tavira)
To Sud (chef Louis Anjos, Palmares, Lagos)
Bon Bon (chef José Lopes, Carvoeiro, Lagoa)
Gusto (Chef Heinz Beck, at Conrad Algarve, in Almancil, Loulé)
Vista (Chef João Oliveira, at the Bela Vista Hotel, Praia da Rocha, Portimão)
In addition to these distinctions, the Algarve celebrated an additional achievement: Nelson Marreiros, head of room at the Ocean restaurant, was awarded the “Michelin Salary Service” award for his “splendid work, which is characterized by the constant search for excellence”
The maintenance of these distinctions and the awarded prizes reflect the continuous commitment of Algarve professionals to offer high quality gastronomic experiences, consolidating the Algarve as a reference destination in the high kitchen.
Two Portuguese chefs distinguished with a Michelin star
Marlene restaurants in Lisbon and Blind in Porto won last Friday the first Michelin star, making the chefs Marlene Vieira and Rita Magro the first women to receive this distinction in the second edition of the exclusively national gala
“The dream commands life and this is a dream come true,” said Marlene Vieira, when, visibly nervous, thanked the distinction attributed to the Marlene restaurant in Lisbon.
Rita Magro, along with ‘Chef’ Vítor Matos, saw the restaurant Blind in Porto also win a Michelin star.
“It was a long way. It was hard, suffered, but finally we arrived, ”said the ‘chef’, noting that this award is the result of” a team that chooses every day to do its best. “
The first Portuguese ‘chef’ to receive a Michelin star was Maria Alice Marto in 1993 with the restaurant Aunt Alice in Fatima, which makes the two chef now distinguished the first women to receive this distinction in the last 30 years.
A par dos restaurantes Marlene e Blind, os restaurantes Arkhe (João Ricardo Alves, Lisboa), Grenache (Philippe Gelfi, Lisboa), Oculto (Hugo Rocha e Vítor Matos, Vila do Conde), Palatial (Rui Filipe, Braga), Vinha (Jonathan Seiller e Henrique Sá Pessoa, Vila Nova de Gaia) e Yoso (Habner Gomes, Lisboa) receberam também hoje uma estrela Michelin.
In total, this year’s counting 38 restaurants with a star, which distinguishes a ‘high -level kitchen, pays to stop’, with 100 ways (Lisbon, chef Ljubomir Stanisic) lost the star, according to the organization.
The eight restaurants previously distinguished with two Michelin stars maintain the distinction this year, the publication revealed. Integrate this category (‘excellent kitchen, the deviation’) the restaurants Vila Joya (Dieter Koschina, Albufeira), Il Gallo d’Oro (Benoît Sinthon, Funchal), Boa Nova Tea House (Rui Paula, Leça da Palmeira), Belcanto (José Avillez, Lisbon), Alma (Henrique Sá Pessoa, Lisbon) Tor Matos, Porto) and The Yeatman (Ricardo Costa, Vila Nova de Gaia).
The country remains without a maximum rating of three stars (“a unique kitchen, justifies the trip”).
At the ceremony, five new restaurants were announced by Bib Gourmand (relative to a good quality/price ratio, in the order of 45 euros): scoundrel (João Rodrigues and Lívia Orofino, Lisbon), contradiction (Óscar frosts, Bragança), Oma (Luis Moreira, Porto), Pigmeu (Miguel Azevedo Peres, Lisbon) and Terruja (Diogo Caetano, Alvados). Portugal now counts 37 restaurants with this distinction.
The ‘Young Chef’ Award was awarded to José Diogo Costa (William, a star, Funchal). The ‘room’ award (which distinguishes the service) was handed over to Nelson Marreiros (Ocean, two stars, porches), while the ‘Sommelier’ Galardoado was Marco Pinto (Fifty Seconds, a star, Lisbon).
Portugal also has another restaurant with ‘Estrela Verde’ (which distinguishes sustainable gastronomy): Charm (José Avillez, a star, Lisbon) – and now totals six in this category.
There are also 35 recommended establishments in the Guide, 12 of the Porto and North region, 10 of the Centro and Lisbon region, and 13 of the regions of Alentejo, Algarve and Madeira.
