Cerro Porteño do Paraguay has a period of time to contest the complaint of Palmeiras for the case of racism that occurred in the game between the two teams last Thursday (6) for the Copa Libertadores U-20, sources from Conmebol to AFP reported on Saturday (8).
“The process is open in the disciplinary unit,” said a Confederation spokesman.
Palmeiras won 3-0 the match at the Gunther Vogel stadium in Asuncion, where the players of the Brazilian team were the target of racist offenses.
Striker Luighi cried in the post-game interview when he talked about it, an image that generated several reactions against acts of prejudice, including President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
After the episode, Conmebol issued a statement in which he stressed that “categorically rejects every act of racism or discrimination of any kind” and announced that “appropriate disciplinary measures will be implemented.”
The board of the Paraguayan team also spoke and repudiated the incident, but Palmeiras requested its exclusion from the competition.
“We will reach the last instances so that Cerro Porteño, so that the racist, so that the criminals are punished in an exemplary way. Even we will request the exclusion of Cerro Porteño from the competition,” said Palmeiras President Leila Pereira.

Cerro Porteño, one of Paraguay’s most popular clubs, should identify the authors of racist offenses, and commit to campaigns against racism in all their future games, among other obligations established by the regulation.
Because it is a repeat offender, the club is exposed to a fine of up to $ 400,000 (R $ 2.3 million in the current price).
Conmebol has already applied a fine of US $ 100,000 (R $ 576,000) to Cerro Porteño on July 22, 2022 for a complaint also filed by Palmeiras after the Libertadores round of 16 played a month earlier in Asuncion.
