State and federal deputies of São Paulo who are part of the sent (7) to the Governor (7) a letter in which they ask him to determine the exemption of (tax on the circulation of goods and services) for the basic basket.
The letter was sent one day after the federal government announced that it goes, and asking states to remove state taxes on the basic basket to help.
In the letter, deputies cite this measure of the federal government and also the strengthening of Conab (National Supply Company) regulatory stocks.
In the document, the federation’s state and federal countertops point out that, currently, the products that make up the basic food basket in the state of São Paulo have a tax benefit that reduces the basis of calculation, which means a 7%tax burden, less than the standard rate of 18%.
“However, we believe it is essential to advance the fiscal exemption, promoting the total exemption of ICMS,” they write, quoting the high in food prices such as rice, beans, milk, oil and flour, which has enhanced families’ lives.
“In addition to benefiting families of lower income, which are the most affected by the high in food prices, the ICMS exemption will strengthen the supermarket sector and boost the São Paulo economy,” they say. “Cost reduction for consumers will generate a positive cycle, stimulating consumption and benefiting economic movement in various sectors.”
In their assessment, the collection of the State with ICMS in 2024, totaling R $ 222.8 billion (excluding the collection of debts per installment and poverty combat fund), would allow the Tarcisio government to adopt the measure without compromising the sustainability of public accounts.
In addition to the letter, state deputy Paulo Fiorilo, leader of the PT/PCdoB/PV Federation at Alesp (Legislative Assembly of SP), filed a project authorizing the state government to grant ICMS exemption to products that make up the basic basket.
