Engineers dismantled Tesla and Byd batteries - and the Chinese is more efficient

Tesla batteries give priority to density and performance; Byd batteries give priority to volume and cheap materials.

German investigators decided disassemble Tesla and Byd batteriestwo of the best known electric car brands in the world – and two brands that have a habit of hiding the components and the operation of their batteries.

The scientists advanced to this analysis just to see what was inside, as described.

Main conclusions: the batteries of Tesla give priority to density of energy and upper performance; the batteries of BYD give priority to efficiency volumetric and to cheaper materials, the relationship cost-benefit.

Concluded that, in general, a Byd battery is more efficient because it allows easier thermal management. BYD design provides higher thermal management, making it more efficient in heat management, which is crucial to longevity and battery performance. The Tesla 4680 cell generates twice the heat by volume than BYD.

The engineer team dismantled Tesla 4680 and Byd Blade battery cells to compare their mechanical structure, material composition and performance features.

A Tesla uses welding to laser, BYD combines laser and ultrasound for electrode connections.

There was something that surprised the Germans: None of the cells use silicon in their anodes – A material often associated with greater energy density.

The batteries carry and discharge differently: BLADE BLADE BATTERY uses a unique technique to fix its electrodes, with an innovative lamination process for the separator between the anode and the cathode; Tesla’s 4680 battery uses a special ligand to keep the materials of the electrodes together – and here is an important difference from much of the competition.

Resemblance: BYD’s battery is larger than Tesla’s, but both batteries have a similar proportion of passive components such as current collectors and conductive bars.
