Lepiduša – a name that few people know today, but it is a simple and incredibly tasty sweetness that once belonged to common dishes in Wallachia. At a time when households were dependent on the basic ingredients and every meal had to be used to the maximum, recipes were created that with a minimum of ingredients were able to conjure up perfect delicacies. And this is exactly what the adhesive is.
This sweet goodness is prepared from mashed potatoes, which most people associate more with salty meals. In Wallachia, however, it was once flavored with butter, sugar and cinnamon to create a rich delicacy that warmed and supplies energy. Sometimes curd or dried fruit was added, depending on what was at hand.

The recipe is surprisingly simple. The basis was classic mashed potatoes, which improved with a little butter, sugar and possibly milk to get a finer consistency. The whole mixture then spread out on a baking pan and baked golden. The result was delicious, soft and fragrant goodness that everyone could taste according to their taste – someone added plum jam, another sprinkled the top with ground poppy or cinnamon.
