Millwall goalkeeper Liam Roberts had his suspension due to a “flying” Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Matea, expanded to six games, FA said last Friday (7).

He left his goal to intercept a pass for the attack on the sixth minute of the round of 16 of the England Cup on Saturday and collided with Matuta, and hit the striker’s head.

Referee Michael Oliver showed a yellow card, but turned it red after reviewing the incident with VAR. Palace President Steve Parish described the entrance as the most reckless he has ever seen.

Roberts received a three -game suspension for a sudden game, but FA made a request to increase punishment, claiming that the default punishment for the infraction was “clearly insufficient.”

The FA’s request was accepted by an independent regulatory committee.

“FA claimed that under circumstances the standard punishment for this infraction was clearly insufficient, and Liam Roberts subsequently denied it,” the FA said in a statement.

“After a hearing, the regulatory committee has maintained the FA request, annulled the standard punishment of three games and instead imposed a six -game suspension.”

. The French striker needed 25 points in the left ear.

In a statement published on the Millwall website, Roberts said he talked to Mateta and apologized for the incident. “I’m devastated with what happened. I unequivocally accept the red card as it was given and accepted my punishment, ”added Roberts.

“In addition, it has been extremely unpleasant to observe suggestions that I intended to harm a professional colleague. I never got into a soccer field with the intention of hurting someone. ”
