Leaders of the largest political force of warned the president (PT) about the resistance to the name of the former mayor of Araraquara Edinho Silva to the party’s command. In a meeting on Thursday night (6), members of CNB (building a new Brazil) warned Lula that today Edinho would hardly be elected, although supported by the president.
This meeting was not on the president’s official agenda. At the meeting, which took place in the apartment of the future Minister of Institutional Relations, (PR), in Brasilia, Lula heard criticism of Edinho’s campaign, without alignment with the current command of the party.
Also according to participants, Lula asked what will be the alternatives to the name of Edinho. The names of Senator Humberto Costa (PE), the President of the Perseu Abramo Foundation, Paulo Okamoto, Federal Deputy Rui Falcão (SP) and the Government leader in the House, José Guimarães (CE), for the mission.
One of those present even suggested the name of former Minister Jose Dirceu. Lula would have, however, argued that Dirceu must devote himself to the candidacy for the House of Representatives in 2026.
One of the meeting participants, the mayor of Maricá (RJ), Washigton Quaquá, says it would be a mistake to launch an application against Gleisi. According to him, the succession will be led by her.
“The important thing is that it pacifies the party. It is not a president who competes with the minister,” said Quaquá, reproducing what he claims to have said during the meeting.

To an eclectic audience, which included names such as former toucan senator José Aníbal and former emedebista minister Nelson Jobim, Edinho defended the union of left and downtown forces against the right-wing right in 2026.

During this lunch, Edinho said that it is necessary to reissue something like a large front built by Lula in 2022 against Jair Bolsonaro (PL). At Gleisi’s meeting of Gleisi, it was defined that Humberto Costa since she takes office on Monday (10) as Minister of the Secretariat of Institutional Relations, a portfolio responsible for the political articulation of the government.

With his embargoed voice, he said the party presidency was the most important task of his life. He said he will miss. According to reports, Gleisi also said that the party makes up the ruling base, but it is not the Lula administration. She stressed the importance of the alliance of parties around the government.
The choice of Costa will be submitted to the PT National Directory within 60 days, by determination of the Party Statute. The buffer mandate runs until early July, when the PT holds elections to choose who will command the subtitle. The parliamentarian will have the mission of conducting this succession process. Last year, he coordinated the party’s electoral work group in the municipal campaign across the country.
Name considered to assume the PT provisionally, the leader of the government in the House, José Guimarães (CE), follows in the function. But it was named for the PT command.
This is not the first time that PT leaders have exhibited resistance to Edinho’s name. Last month, an invitation for a dinner with Edinho in the WhatsApp group of deputies who make up the PT’s majority current. The meeting was canceled.
The perspective of change in the party summit has fostered the opposition of the occupants of the current direction to the name of Edinho. The CNB threatens to rebel against its greatest leader, looking for options to its nominee. This Thursday, Lula had a sample of this riot.
