The President () appointed this Saturday (8) the lawyer for the vacancy of Minister in the (Superior Military Court). She can become the second woman to occupy the position in the history of the court, which is over 200 years old.
The act of nomination took place on International Women’s Day and was published in the Federal Official Gazette. The choice was also released in a photo of the president with Veronica, the first lady, Janja da Silva, and the new minister of the Secretariat of Institutional Relations, (PT), who was a lawyer.
Now, to be confirmed in office, she will have to go through Sabbath in the Federal Senate and approval by the Plenary.
In a video released on social networks, the president pointed out that he was responsible for nominating in 2007 the first woman to join STM, Maria Elizabeth Rocha, also on March 8, and recalled that the court was created in 1808.
“I am sure you and Maria Elizabeth will change the history of the Supreme Military Court for the better. You know, a Supreme Military Court that has the understanding of what is military crime and what is common crime. It will be good for Brazilian society, the Supreme Military Court and for women,” Lula said.
The president recommended that she visit the senators’ offices in search of support to take office and said Gleisi will assist in these conversations. “I’m sure the Senate president will help you because it is very important that women take up more and more space,” he said.

The nominee holds a degree in Law from PUC-SP (Catholic University of São Paulo) and Master in Criminal Procedural Law from USP (University of São Paulo), according to curriculum released by the government.
