United States President Donald Trump announced on Friday the creation of a task force to assist in the 2026 World Cup planning, which will be headquartered in the country, Canada and Mexico.
Trump published a decree in which he provides a group to be chaired by him formed by various departments to gather information in the execution of the World Cup. In the executive order, the president refers to the World Cup as the largest sporting event in the country.
“This important event, which occurs during the memorable occasion of the 250th anniversary of our country, presents an opportunity to display the pride and hospitality of the nation, while promoting economic growth and tourism through sport,” says the text of the decree.
Trump said the World Cup, which will start in June next year, should be equivalent to three Super Bowls a day.
He made the statement alongside Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA, who claimed to be a great achievement to bring the sports event to the countries of North America. Infantine recalled that the US will host the Club World Cup, which will start in June. The games will take place in 11 cities and the winner will receive a total prize of $ 1 billion ($ 5.8 billion in the current quotation).
“America will welcome the world. There will be millions of people coming, Millions of people. The economic impact is $ 40 billion American. Between now and next year, we will create 200,000 jobs for these two World Cups, and more than that, we will bring joy and happiness to keep the world and this crisis definitely,” he said.
The World Cup next year will have 104 matches in 16 different host cities between the three countries.
In the US, some states were chosen to host the matches: Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, Kansas City, Atlanta, Miami, Boston, Philadelphia and New Jersey.
On Wednesday, Infantino announced that the 2026 World Cup final, scheduled for Metlife Stadium, outside New York, will have a “break show”, along the lines of the Super Bowl.
“I can confirm the first show in the break of the FIFA World Cup final in New York/New Jersey, in association with Global Citizen. It will be a historic moment for the World Cup and a show worthy of the largest sporting event in the world,” infantile wrote in his Instagram account after an convention with FIFA’s business and media partners in Dallas, Texas.
Trump’s decision to create the task force indicates an engagement at the sporting event, whose organization will be divided with the two neighboring countries with which Trump has been friction for having decided to impose tariffs on imported products.
