To date, of the two notifications, there were no confirmed case. The last confirmed case of pertussis in Acre was in 2019, when the state notified 22 patients and confirmed 3 cases.
National scenario
Brazil recorded 7,283 cases of pertussis in 2024, which constitutes an increase of 3.303% compared to 2023, whose total was 214.
In 2025 until the Epidemiological Week (SE) 9, 610 cases were confirmed, the states that had the most cases of the disease were Sao Paulo (120), Minas Gerais (115), Paraná (111) and Rio Grande do Sul (89).
According to epidemiological panel of the Ministry of Health, Brazil registered 04 deaths by pertussis in 2025, in the states of Minas Gerais (2), Maranhão (1) and Rio Grande do Sul (1).
Dutch is an acute, respiratory, high transmissibility infectious disease. A sick person can infect up to 17 susceptible people. It is of compulsory and immediate notification (up to 24 hours) compared to the suspicion and should be communicated to the municipal surveillance. In addition to a cough that looks like a “scream”, symptoms include runny nose, nasal congestion and sneezing.
Vaccination
Looking at the national scenario, Sesacre asks parents to be aware of their children’s vaccination scheme – a measure needed to continue controlling the disease.
In the Unified Health System (SUS), in compliance with the National Vaccination Calendar, immunization against the disease is offered to children from 2 months of life to children under 7 years, pregnant women, postpartum (up to 45 days postpartum) not vaccinated during the gestational period and for priority groups: health professionals, traditional midwives and health interns.
