The company Águas do Algarve has launched a procedure for the formation of the contract “EXECUTION EXECUTION EXECUTION EXECUTION AND APR Adduction of Almargem”, with a base price of 5,400,000 euros.
Water for reuse (APR) produced in the Almargem WWTP will be intended for the watering fields Benamor Golf, Quinta da Ria Golf and Quinta de Cima Golf. This investment aims to improve the treatment of urban wastewater for the production and distribution of APR, by building an additional phase of treatment that will allow wastewater disinfection and the installation of lifting stations for its distribution.
The main objective of the project is the reuse of wastewater treated for the watering of golf camps and associated green spaces, promoting sustainable use of water and minimizing the impacts of water scarcity. This solution reinforces drought resilience and responds to climate change challenges.
The reception of proposals for this competition takes place until March 17.
Water reuse emerges as a sustainable alternative to respond to increased water demand, ensuring efficient use of resources without compromising future availability. This practice is aligned with the principles of circular economy and is part of the action program measures to adapt to climate change (P-3AC).
The investment, identified with the Code Ersar 461, is part of the concession agreement signed between Águas do Algarve and the Portuguese State, framed in component C09 of the Plan for Recovery and Resilience (PRR).
This project is part of the Algarve Regional Water Efficiency Plan, which includes measures to:
- Promote the reuse of treated residual water;
- Increase available capacity and resilience of reservoirs and adduction systems;
- Invest in seawater desalination.
The strategy for reuse of water in Portugal is based on the following principles:
- Incorporate the latest sector advances, focusing on the European context;
- Use reused water only for non -potable purposes, including urban, agricultural and industrial watering;
- Identify Potential Producers and Users of APR;
- Define a flexible regulatory framework, ensuring high safety standards for public health and the environment.
Thus, it reinforces its commitment to innovative and sustainable solutions, contributing to water resilience and ensuring a more balanced and safe future for upcoming generations.
