Bill proposes scholarship for diabetics in SUS

Initiative aims to ensure healthy diet for patients with diabetes, including selected foods and inputs

The deputy (PDT-BA) presented to the House of Representatives the bill, which aims to create a scholarship program for diabetics registered in SUS (Unified Health System). The goal is to ensure that these patients have access to a healthy and controlled diet, crucial to diabetes management.

The program will be managed by the Ministries of Health and Agriculture and will include the monthly distribution of a selected food basket and inputs such as vegetables, vegetables, fruits, whole grains, lean proteins and natural or artificial sweeteners.

The bill also prioritizes integral products from family farming, promoting sustainability and support for small producers. The distribution of food will have the collaboration of local cooperatives and producers registered in the program, which will facilitate the access of beneficiaries to fresh and quality foods, as well as stimulating the local economy and strengthening rural communities.

“Contributing significantly to the prevention of common complications associated with diabetes, such as cardiovascular problems”said Leo Prates. He also stressed that the measure can decrease overload in the health system, reducing the incidence of complications arising from an inadequate diet.

For the implementation of the program, specific budget resources are planned. There is also the possibility of receiving donations and establishing partnerships with private entities and non -governmental organizations interested in promoting public health and the development of family farming.
