Civil Protection issues notice to the population due to the forecast of heavy rain, wind and snow

Civil Protection has accumulated a 657 occurrences, since the beginning of the special warning for the passage of the depression Jana through Portugal and until 07:00 this Sunday, expected a displeasure of the state of time throughout the day.

According to Commander Alberto Fernandes, of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (Anepc), since 00:00 on Friday, when the special alert began because of the state of time aggravation, and until 07:00 today, 657 occurrences were recorded, which involved 2,566 operational and 928 terrestrial means.

The balance of the last night “is not relevant”, since “it was an extremely calm night”, waiting today the “displeasure of weather conditions,” he added.

“The most affected areas were Lisbon, followed by the Setúbal and Faro Peninsula. The most relevant occurrences were tree falls, structures falls, road cleansing and small floods,” he said.

In a balance sheet held on Saturday night at 21:40, Civil Protection had announced a 618 occurrences since the beginning of the special alert due to the depression Jana, of which 267 had been recorded on Saturday.

One of these occurrences was one that damaged two dwellings in the Coruche area (Santarém).

Five districts and wood under orange warning

The Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) today placed under orange warning, due to the strong maritime unrest, the districts of Leiria, Lisbon, Setúbal, Beja and Faro, as well as the north coast of Madeira Island and the entire coast of Porto Santo island.

The coast zones of Coimbra, Aveiro, Porto, Braga and Viana do Castelo are also under yellow warning also due to sea agitation.

Guard and Castelo Branco districts are under yellow warning due to snowfall.

The IPMA predicts for today, on the continent, heaven generally very cloudy, sweeteners, which will be snow on the highlands of the North and Center, sometimes strong wind on the coast and highlands, strong maritime agitation and small descent of the minimum temperature.

Orange warning is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a moderate to high -risk weather situation and yellow when there is a risk situation for certain activities dependent on the weather situation.
