The Disciplinary Commission of Conmebol (South American Football Confederation) determined on Sunday (9) that Cerro Porteño competes with the closed gates the next matches of the 2025 edition of Libertadores U-20, in addition to the payment of a fine of US $ 50 thousand (R $ 288,400).

The punishments come as a consequence of the acts of racism practiced by club fans during a match against Palmeiras for the competition on Thursday night (6) in Asuncion. The Brazilian team won the 3-0 confrontation.

Palmeiras Luighi’s thrilled statement after Cerro fans made gestures imitating a monkey caused a strong commotion in the middle.

The president of Palmeiras, Leila Pereira, even defended the exclusion of Cerro Porteño from the competition, which was not accepted by the confederation that commands football in South America.

Conmebol also determined that the Paraguayan club publish in its social networks a racism awareness campaign, in which all the team’s under-20 players should participate. The content needs to be previously approved by the Confederation.

Cerro Porteño has seven days to appeal the decision.
