How fridge and microwave can disturb the signal
It may sound surprising, but microwaves can really disturb the Wi-Fi signal. Both technologies work on a similar frequency-microwave at 2.450 GHz and Wi-Fi at 2.412 to 2.472 GHz. When you turn on the microwave, this can cause the Internet speed to drop. Some tests have shown that the download rate may drop by up to 85 %. In worse cases, the signal is even completely lost. Microwave ovens are designed so that no electromagnetic waves escape, but interference can occur if the router and microwave are in the immediate vicinity.
Another household appliance that can affect your internet is a modern refrigerator. They have large metal covers that block or reflect the radio waves. If the router is close to the fridge, the signal may be weak or unstable. But the solution is simple. Do not leave the router on or in close proximity. It is ideal to place the router in the open space at a suitable height. If the signal is still weakening, consider buying a signal amplifier for better coverage.
What else can affect the Internet
In addition to microwave and refrigerator, there are many other factors that can affect the quality of your Internet connection. Large mirrors, washing machines, dryers or strong concrete and brick walls can significantly weaken the signal. Also, equipment such as baby monitors, Bluetooth or metal objects, such as cabinets and radiators, can negatively affect Wi-Fi. Even such an aquarium can affect the stability of the connection.
So whether you often face Internet outages and do not know anymore, try to make sure that your router is not really found in one of these inappropriate places. You may be surprised how simply this problem will be solved.
