It has been standing in its places for hundreds of years and have quietly followed the events in the area. Memorial, but also the seemingly ordinary trees could tell the whole novels. Did you know that they also have their beauty contest?
A cursory view of the landscape often stops on one of the beautiful, hefty and charming trees. No wonder, although we may sometimes not realize it, it is the trees that have already provided a temporary shelter from bad weather in the distant past, provided fruit and the poorest, the natural indicators of the right way. “At the oak to the left and from the Great Linden directly to the water”. GPS was not needed, everyone knew…
Witnesses of ancient events
It is logical that the past was not as idyllic as we often imagine it. Even such moments remember the old trees. Wars, diseases, famine. Therefore, most of us appreciate the old (and not only old) trees. Even so much that a special “Tree of the Year” poll was created, in which such state witnesses of nomination and subsequent voting can also be lifted into even greater awareness.
Lots of candidates and voters
This poll has been regularly organized since 2002 and has been replaced by more than 1700 nominees, 260 finalists and three quarters of a million voters. Certainly it is not a negligible event.
Third place for two linden
In the last three places of the year, the first three places were shared by beautiful individuals from different corners of the country. The third place was shared by two near the growing linden tree from Václavice in the Liberec region from the Wohlmann Cross. What are they so unique? Much older individuals appear in the poll, but these linden trees have become a symbol of the desire for life. While they defeated them in the second half of the last century so that they could build a take -off track for powder aircraft in their place, the linden trees resisted the stumps. Today, they are again noble admirable trees with great symbolism.
And the linden again …
The second place last year was also a lime tree, which this time grows near the Reskin in the Kroměříž region, the historical and cultural monument of the wide surroundings. For many, its jagged tribe is a symbol of children’s games and the first meetings, as well as hiding in problematic, such as war, times.
The last winner is a sturdy oak so far
Which tree, according to the poll, rather, according to voters, deserved the winning cup last year? It was a sturdy oak from Lukavice in the Chrudim region, who waited for his title for eight hundred years. He has survived many of the honest fate and human efforts to liquidate it and thus became a symbol of longevity and resistance.
Will you also vote this year?
The poll is regularly announced by the Partnership Foundation and the interest in participating in it regularly moves in hundreds of applications. Therefore, this year’s year is already planned to be officially launched in May. But we can already look for trees in our surroundings, which by its impressiveness, but also the story, could attract voters. Maybe the tree of the year will become yours.
