National Police agents have arrested a man in the town of Burriana (Castellón) for cheating more than 32,000 euros to people affected by the reconstruction of their houses located in the vicinity of a torrent ravine (Valencia).
The alleged scammer, who would have affected at least eight people, disappeared after receiving half the payment from the victims, as reported by the Superior Police Headquarters in a statement. The investigations began last January, when three independent complaints from several neighbors in an urbanization of this town – who informed the agents who had been scammed after trusting work of reconstruction of their homes to a man.
The researchers found that the alleged scammer carried out the same ‘modus operandi’ and detected the existence of at least five other affected people. The suspect contributed the victims, to subsequently request half of the payment in advance.
Once its purpose was achieved and after performing some of these properties some trivial work to achieve the confidence of the injured, disappeared from the area with some excuse or pretext, without doing the hired works.
During the research tasks developed by the Torrent cybercrime group, the agents identified the person behind the scams. The arrested offered, using as a screen a company that had modified the commercial name to attract the attention of the victims, thus taking advantage of the state of necessity and vulnerability in which they were.
The detainee offered them a “fast” and “economic” reconstruction of access to their respective houses and scammed them 32,456 euros. In addition, I used various bank accounts to receive payments. One of them was in the name of a deceased person who was related to him in other crimes of the same nature.
The 41 -year -old detainee and with a police record for the commission of similar events, has been made available to the judicial authority.
