18 other people were injured; The site housed people in social vulnerability
Four people died and 18 were injured in a fire in a shelter for people in social vulnerability in São José dos Campos, interior of São Paulo, at dawn on Monday (10.mar.2025). Among the dead are 2 men and 2 women, aged 50 to 61 years.
According to SSP-SP (São Paulo Public Security Secretariat), the police investigate the case as a criminal fire. A suspect was arrested.
To the G1Military Police colonel Alan Kalczuk said the suspect was under the influence of drugs and would have committed the crime for revenge. “According to the point, this criminal was numb and, at first, because this will be investigated by the Civil Police, the crime was committed by a quarrel with an employee or owner of the thrift store,” these.
The operation had the Fire Department, Military Police, Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU and Municipal Civil Guard). The fire was controlled.
On social networks, the comforting community of the afflicted, responsible for the shelter, said they collaborated with the investigations and asked for justice.
“In this moment of pain and dismay, we express our most sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims, as well as our solidarity with the injured and all those impacted by this terrible tragedy”said the community.
