The deputy’s amendment alters the FGTS law to include that as a result of natural disaster “if the worker proves that the damage suffered have compromised his subsistence or habitability”.
In the justification, the parliamentarian cites the frequent natural disasters suffered by the country, such as floods, droughts, landslides and storms, “which cause destruction and severe damage to thousands of workers and their families.”
Zanatta argues that the value limitation of withdrawal does not adequately meet the urgent needs of the affected population. “The total release of FGTS balance in calamity situations will allow thousands of Brazilians to rebuild their homes, acquire essential goods and exceed financial difficulties at a critical moment.”
