In 2025, the legal age for access to the old age pension in Portugal rises to 66 years and seven months, however, there is a possibility of requesting early reform, provided that certain requirements are met. Know the conditions and steps necessary to request reform before the age provided by law.
Early Reform Regimes
There are several early reform regimes that allow the labor market to leave before the legal age, even with different penalties:
-Regime for flexibility of personal reform age: Allows you to reform before the legal age if you have 40 or more years of discounts. For each year in addition to 40 years of contributions, it is possible to reduce four months to the normal age of reform.
-Regime of very long careers: It is intended for those who have 60 or more years and a contributory career of at least 46 years. Those who started contributory life before the age of 17 and have 46 or more years of discounts can reform without penalties.
-Regime by long -term unemployment: Available to those who have exhausted the unemployment allowance and comply with the specific conditions established by Social Security.
-Special regime for quick wear professions: Applicable to some professional activities considered at risk or greater physical and mental wear.

-Reduction by anticipation: For each missing month to the age of renovation, a 0.5% cut is applied to the pension.
Practical example
Taking the practical example shared by: If a 62-year-old worker decides to renovate himself by 2025 and has a contributory career of 43, he will be entitled to reduce one year in the normal renovation age (four months per year beyond 40 contributions).
Thus, his personal renovation age will be 65 years and seven months. If you request early renovation at 62, you will have a cut of 22.5% (45 months x 0.5%) in your pension.
How to require early reform?
The request can be made in person in social security services or through direct social security.
The application must be delivered at least three months in advance of the intended date for the beginning of the pension.
