Prince Frederik Luxembourg, the youngest son of Prince Robert of Luxembourg and Princess Julie from Nassau, died on March 1, only twenty -two years old. The cause of death was a rare genetic disease that gradually destroys the energy system of cells. The mourning announcement was published by Frederik’s father Prince Robert on the Polg Foundation Foundation website.
Frederik knew he was dying and said goodbye to each family member separately – With brother Alexander, sister Charlotte, father, three cousins Charli, Louis and Donallo, brother -in -law Mansour, Aunt Charlotte and Uncle Mark. “He has talked with his mother earlier. It has been supported by the last fifteen years and did not leave him for a moment”Added Prince Robert.
Despite the difficult moments, Frederik retained the humor and lightness that was typical of him. His father mentioned that his last words to the family were not only kind and wise, but also full of humor. “In Frederik’s style, he finally gave us one old family joke to cheer us up”Added Robert.
Frederik suffered from polg mitochondrial disease since birth, but he learned the diagnosis only at the age of fourteen when his health began to deteriorate. This disease affects many organs – brain, nerves, liver, muscles, eyes and digestive system.
