The early elections occur 10 months after those, following the approval of one presented by the arrival – which justified it with judicial investigations involving members of the Regional Government, including the president, Miguel Albuquerque (PSD) – and the dissolution of the Legislative Assembly by the President of the Republic.

In the legislature that now ends, the Regional Parliament had 19 PSD representatives, 11 of the PS, nine of JPP, three of the arrival and two from CDS-PP. Pan and Il had one seat each and there was still an independent deputy (ex-budget).

This will be the first time in 2025 that the Madeirans go to elections – but should be the first of Four elections in less than a year: These regional legislatures, the probable national legislatures, the municipalities in September/October and the presidential in January 2026.

And they may still be five if the Madeira Regional Government is again overthrown.
