SAO PAULO (Reuters)-The Ministry of Education extended the deadlines of the ordinance that establishes the creation of new rules for the offer of distance learning undergraduate courses, as published in the Federal Official Gazette on Monday.
The deadline was postponed until April 10 or until the regulation of the new regulatory framework.
In mid -last year, the MEC said it would establish new quality references by December 31 and a new regulatory framework to offer undergraduate distance learning courses (ODL).
The concierge of June 6 also dealt with the creation of new rules for the regulatory processes of higher education institutions and EAD undergraduate courses, with MEC estimating to promote the review of the evaluation instruments until March 10, 2025.
At the time, the creation of new undergraduate courses in the distance learning was suspended, the increase of vacancies in EAD undergraduate courses and the creation of distance learning poles by federal education system institutions until March 10, 2025.
UBS BB analysts considered negative news, citing that this change can give MEC greater flexibility on the date of publication of new standards and restricting new distance learning poles.

“This increases uncertainty about the period when we could have more visibility about the proposed changes in distance learning standards,” said analysts Andre Salles, Leonardo Olmos and Eduardo Resende in a report on Monday.
“In addition, the postponement may suggest that consensus on the proposals suggested for the sector may be farther away from what was thought earlier.”
The bank’s team also mentioned that the increase in the prohibition period for the creation of new poles can result in further disputes in the sector if the limitation of new courses persists for a long period of time.
