Montosa Viveiros modernize and reinforce export with support from European funds [vídeo]

The Algarve Regional Coordination and Regional Development Commission (CCDR), with the support of the National Rural Network and in partnership with the Algarve agri -food sector, is promoting a short video campaign that present success cases of investments supported by European funds, such as the Mounteosa nurseries. The goal is to publicize and promote the transformation of agriculture in the Algarve, following the evolution of this strategic sector for the socioeconomic development of Europe.

In this initiative, it makes known to the company Viveiros Monterosa, Lda., Headquartered in Moncarapacho, in the municipality of Olhão. The company has been dedicated to the production of ornamental plants since 1972, but its origin dates back to 1969, when three Swedish citizens decided to bet on the production of vegetables in southern Portugal, in order to export fresh products to northern Europe. The project, led by Detlev Von Rosen, underwent several attempts before, in 1972, finding in the production of ornamental plants its true course, giving rise to the company Viveiros Monterosa LDA.

More recently, in 2005, the company diversified its activity, introducing the production of fifth oil. Currently, the montering nurseries have an annual production of 4 million ornamental plants and about 15,000 liters of olive oil.

With a total of 40 hectares dedicated to plant production, the company has been focused on export for European markets, always under the motto of “quality ornamental plant production”. The company’s leadership is currently in charge of Eduardo Martins and José Dâmaso, who have a solid team of about 170 employees.

Focused on a sustainable and quality production, the montering nurseries seek to develop plants adapted to the climate of the Algarve region, with the aim of creating more efficient gardens in the use of water, low maintenance and integrated into the natural landscape.

Betting on competitiveness, the company has been making significant investments to improve productive efficiency and reduce environmental impact.

PDR 2020 support was critical to strengthening operational efficiency, increasing profitability and expanding export capacity, ensuring better hygiene and safety conditions in the workplace.
