Maranhão Court of Justice estimates a spending of nearly $ 600,000 with state -of -the -art Apple smartphones
The TJ-MA (Court of Justice of the State of Maranhão) published a clarification note on the last Friday (7.mar.2025) stating that the purchase of 50 of model 16 Pro Max for the judges of the agency follows technical criteria and “It is not configured for personal benefit.”
On February 25, the court published a notice to buy the state -of -the -art Apple smartphone models. The estimated spending on the purchase of the devices is $ 573,399.50. Each iPhone costs $ 11,467.99.
“The choice of reference model was based on technical criteria that guarantee the continuity and standardization of the judiciary’s technological infrastructure, aiming at compatibility, integration and unified technical support, enabling online participation in meetings, sessions and hearings and quick access to institutional systems, especially the electronic judicial process.”said the organ.
According to TJ-MA, iPhone 16 is considered a “Advanced work tool, essential for service needs within the judiciary”. According to the note issued by the agency, the device will be used to:
- Download and view videos of audiences and memorials faster and more quality;
- Conduct virtual or hybrid sessions and without interruption and with better audio and video performance;
- Access electronic procedural systems with more fluidity, speed and greater visibility;
- Ensure mobility and productivity, allowing magistrates and servers to act from any place safely and efficiently;

- Communication, which currently do not have devices and whose servers face difficulties when using their personal smartphones.
TJ-MA also justified that the purchase is properly planned and provided for in the annual budget of the judiciary. “The hiring procedure strictly follows the provisions of Law No. 14,133/2021, which regulates bids and administrative contracts, and provides for the modality of electronic trading, ensuring wide competition and obtaining the best cost-effective proposal for public administration.”wrote the organ.
