The decision of the Romanian election commission has provoked protests by its supporters before the Commission’s headquarters.

On Sunday, the Romanian election commission confirmed the rejection of the registration of the presidential candidacy by the far right -wing politician Calina Georgesca. TASR reports on the basis of AFP and DPA reports.

The announcement of the election commission states that the Commission has decided to “refuse to register for the elections of the President of the Romanian Republic in 2025 by the independent candidate, Mr. Calin Georgesco”. The reason for this step was refused to state, writes AFP.

The rejection of the candidacy was angry with its supporters who, according to DPA in front of the headquarters of the election commission, broke through the police cordon.

The commission of the pro -Russian politician’s candidacy has been rejected by 10 to 4. However, its decision is not final and is expected to have to decide the Romanian Constitutional Court in the matter, DPA adds.

In December, the Romanian Constitutional Court annulled the results of the November first round of the presidential election, in which 62-year-old Georgescu surprisingly won, although he had had minimal support according to surveys. According to the findings of the news services, the fairness of voting was disrupted by Russia through thousands of accounts on the Platforms of the Tick and Telegram. Moscow denied these claims.

The prosecutor’s office also initiated criminal proceedings against Gorgesco in February. He is accused of inciting proceedings against the constitutional order, initiating or establishing a fascist, racist or xenophobic organization or public support for the cult of guilty of genocide and war crimes, as well as false statements on the financing of the election campaign.
