An American oil tanker and a Portuguese merchant ship, in the east of the United Kingdom, as confirmed by the Coast Guard, which has indicated that there is a missing person and another 36 have been rescued.
“A crew of (Merchant) Solong is still missing after a wide search. Unfortunately it has not been located and the search has been completed,” explained a spokesman for the British coast guard, Matthew Atkinson, cited by the television Sky News. The two ships “are still in flames and planes of the Coast Guard continue to monitor the situation,” ATKINSON added.
The Portuguese Flag, has collided with the American flag oil tanker Stena immaculate to thirteen miles from the British coast, in the north sea at 9.48 hours (10.48 Spanish peninsular time).
A helicopter, a plane and several vessels have moved to the place, including ships with fire fighting. The search and rescue teams have moved a total of 36 people to the coast, one of whom has had to be hospitalized, according to Deputy Graham Stuart.
As recognized by the Crowley company, operator and co -owner of the Stena Immaculate ‘The ship transported fuel for airplanes when it has been beaten by the Solong. The follow -up data confirms that Stena Immaculate was motionless and anchored and that it is the Solong that is directed towards him and impacts. It has been ruled out that this clash is the work of external agents, in a context of growing with Russia in the North Sea.
The entire crew of the American ship is safe although the fuel is spilling and has turned on the waters of the North Sea. The merchant ship transported 15 sodium cyanide containers, a very toxic compound.
The Maritime Research Division has sent a team to the area to analyze what happened, which raises concern about the environmental impact that fuel discharges could have. The NGO Greenpeace has affirmed that it is still “too soon” to estimate the scope of environmental damage.
The Undersecretary of the Environment, Sue Hayman, has recognized being “extremely shocked and worried” for the situation in the North Sea. Sky News sources suggest that the government would have declared an area of five -miles air and sea exclusion – about eight kilometers – around the place.
