According to witnesses, two buses damaged in the border of the Pan American motorway and a third overturned when he arrived at the scene, colliding with the first two.

A collision between four buses in northern Chile caused six dead and 11 injured, two of which are gravity, the local authorities announced.

“We have to announce the unfortunate death of six people,” said Coquimbo Regional Police Chief General Juan Muñoz, quoted by the French agency AFP.

The officer said two of the 11 injured were life -threatening. The injured were taken to hospitals in the cities of Coquimbo and La Serena, the closest to the accident, which occurred at 04:30 (7:30 am in Lisbon), 480 kilometers north of the capital, Santiago.

A fourth bus could not stop in time, hit the third and ran over the people who had left the vehicles. Chilean President Gabriel Boric spoke of a “Terrible Tragedy”.

“My condolences and my solidarity with the families of the victims at this difficult time,” he said in a message on social networks.
