PSD national president Gilberto Kassab said on Monday (10) that Pernambuco governor Raquel Lyra could apply for the presidency of the Republic in 2030. The statement was made during a party’s affiliation event after she left the PSDB amid the possibility of merger and extinction of the acronym.
“I have no doubt that, with the reelection of Raquel [em 2026]Brazil will start dreaming of it in the presidency, ”said Kassab, as published by the newspaper The globe.
In an interview with journalists, he stressed that his affiliation with the PSD is not a “alliance of occasion, but on purpose.”
“We have people who work to make our country better to live, with inalienable values, such as the defense of democracy and institutions,” said the governor. Raquel also assumed the presidency of the PSD state directory in Pernambuco, a function previously held by André de Paula, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture.
Behind the scenes, it is speculated that Raquel will try to link his image to that of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT), in a possible candidacy in 2026, the year he should run with his cousin, the mayor of Recife, (PSB).
João Campos is considered one of the main progressive figures of Pernambuco politics. In his last year of the first term, his government was evaluated as great by 78% of voters in the Pernambuco capital, according to the Atlas Institute survey, released in late 2024.
