Governor of Pernambuco leaves the PSDB, keeping an eye on reelection and an approximation with Lula, but can face challenge with João Campos (PSB)
The governor of Pernambuco, 46, joined this Monday (10.mar.2025). It leaves the PSDB – infected in recent years – keeping an eye on reelection in 2026 and signals approximation with the president’s government (PT).
The event, held at Recife Expo Center, in the Pernambuco capital, had a climate of party convention. Present were the president of the PSD, and the ministers (mines and energy) and (fishing and aquaculture), all affiliated with the party.
To journalists, Rachel stated that affiliation was not a “Occasion alliance, but on purpose”.
“With people who work to make our country better to live. With inalienable values, defending democracy, institutions ”these.
Raquel also assumed the presidency of the PSD directory in Pernambuco, previously occupied by, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture.

Cuddling to the toucan party…
On Sunday (9.mar), the deputy governor of Pernambuco, Priscila Krause, left citizenship to to the PSDB.
In the statement sent to journalists, Krause states that the decision aims to reinforce “Her political trajectory aligned with Governor Raquel Lyra and the project of transformation and development of Pernambuco”.
The gesture was interpreted as a stroke and a political maneuver of Rachel toward the toucan acronym.

The Kassab Party, however, has no representatives in the Pernambuco Legislative Assembly and manages 20 municipalities in the state. On the other hand, the PSDB, with the support of Raquel Lyra, elected 32 mayors and has a bench of 3 state deputies.
But not so much …
Raquel’s plan is to try a new term ahead of the state that currently runs. For this, it needs a larger caption, with more structure and capillarity.
The PSDB would not be an option because it has been decreasing in size with each election, besides having no internal unit. In 2024, the toucans elected only 276 mayors – 259 for comparison with the previous municipal election.
The Pernambuco governor also seeks to strengthen herself for a possible dispute with the current mayor of Recife, (PSB), by the State Government in 2026.
A GENIAL/QUARE survey On Thursday (27.FEV) showed that Campos had 56% of voting intentions, while Raquel Lyra had 28% in the future dispute.
The survey was hired by the genius investments and held from 19 to 23 February with 1,104 Brazilians from 16 years or older. The confidence level is 95% for an error margin of 3 percentage points for more or less. This is a (PDF – 9 MB).
Raquel also seeks to approach the Lula administration, but a possible support from the president to her in 2026 is uncertain, as the PSB also integrates the base of support for the petista.
In recent months, members of the acronym have begun to consider making a merger with some other caption (possibly we can) or if incorporated (by the PSD).
