Organization claims that former minister exceeded the limits of freedom of expression by accusing the NGO, without evidence, to try to interfere with the process of bidding human rights bidding
The organization filed two criminal complaints against the former human rights minister on Monday (10). The complaints, by defamation, were presented to and are under the rapporteur of Minister Carmen Lúcia. The NGO Me Too Brasil claims that Almeida exceeded the limits of freedom of expression by accusing the organization, without evidence, to try to interfere with the process of bidding human rights and raising unfounded suspicions of overpricing.
According to Meo, Silvio Almeida’s statements configure a willful broadcast of content, with the objective of altering the truth of the facts in a criminal and defamatory way. Complaints against Silvio Almeida included accusations made by several people, including Racial Equality Minister Anielle Franco. The former minister denies all the accusations. The repercussion of the case was national, leading President Lula to make the decision to dismiss him from his position in the Esplanade of Ministries in September last year after complaints of sexual and moral harassment.
