The Parliament of Portugal rejected, on Tuesday (11), a motion of trust in the minority government of the center-right of Prime Minister Luis Montenegro.
With the result of the vote, a new anticipated general election – the third in the country in just over three years – should be held.
While the new election does not occur, the government assumes an interim role. According to the president of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the claim should be held in mid -May.
Montenegro, who was three weeks of completing one year in office, presented the motion last Thursday (6) after the opposition questioned his integrity over the business of a consulting firm he founded and is now run by his children.
Montenegro of the Social Democratic Party denied having committed irregularities or any ethical failure in the company, which has contracts with private companies.
