Republican parliamentarians will try on Tuesday (11) to approve legislation in order to avoid a government stoppage USA over the weekend, while democrats, alarmed with the state’s reduction effort by the US President, Donald Trumpthey must oppose her.
The vote in the House of Representatives is likely to be tightened. Republicans hold the house for a close margin of 218 to 214 deputies, and at least one of them, Kentucky’s parliamentarian Thomas Massie said he would vote against.
But Trump has been pressuring Republicans to stay together, and other members who usually vote against government financing projects said they will support this.
If approved in the House, the legislation will also have to be approved in the Senate to ensure that government agencies can continue to operate after Friday midnight, when financing will expire.
Republican senators, in turn, will need that at least seven Democrats vote with them to avoid the interruption of financing, which could stop from financial supervision to scientific research, and force hundreds of thousands of federal employees to run out of payment.
Many of these workers have already been stressed by the Trump campaign to reduce US public service ranks and cut spending.
So far, at least 100,000 of the government’s 2.3 million civil servants have been dismissed or accepted a termination agreement, and Trump effectively closed agencies that deal with external help and consumer protection.
Trump’s government also ordered a second round of layoffs, with plans scheduled for this week.
Democrats claim that the effort to reduce Trump’s state, led by billionaire Elon Musk, runs over Congress’s authority on spending issues.
Most Democrats are expected to vote against the spending bill, arguing that it will not make much sense to vote for legislation that will probably be ignored by the government.
The bill would extend government funding by the end of fiscal year on September 30, largely at current levels.
