Area population near the capital seeks shelter after the most active geological structure in Central America begins to expel Lava and Ashes
The rash of the fire volcano, located 35 km from the city of Guatemala, caused the evacuation of approximately 1,000 people.
The most active geological structure in Central America began to expel Lava, ashes and rocks, according to information released by The Guardian this Monday (10.mar.2025).
The evacuated population went to temporary shelters, recalling the tragic rash of 2018, which caused the death of 215 people and the disappearance of a similar number.
Manuel Cobox, 46, shared his experience by evacuating with his family. “We heard the crashes and then a strong eruption. We have faith in God… that the activity of the volcano will calm down soon ”he said, according to the Guardian.
The Guatemala Disaster Coordination Agency, Conred, reported that about 125 families, or 900 people, were relocated to the El Porvenir community. Another community, Las Lajitas, also had its residents evacuated.
