Bankers captured a new type of fraud, where fraudsters are married to parents of parents and, through the chat applications, require money. Between 2023 and 2024, these attempts to fraud by 3000 percent increased and the first two months of 2025 were enough to overcome last year. For this year’s January and February, she identified fraud worth € 436.222.
“Whatsappa’s chat, to which fraudsters are heading their victims, looks really serious. The child asks his / her parent to pay his account for him because his phone has broken down and can’t get to his bank application. If a parent seems strange that the child has changed the phone number, he will write to him that his cell phone has broken down and the display does not work. So he had to borrow a replacement until it was repaired. The fraudster then sends his / her payment data to the parent and asks him to make an immediate payment, “the savings bank explained.
She added that if a parent cannot make an immediate payment, Asks him a fraudster for a photo card photo from which he immediately withdraws the money. Between it, he converses with a parent, asks him what he does to give the impression that it really is his child, the experts said.
The problem that banks encountered is, according to the savings bank, also in the fact that Fraudsters started to go payments to Slovak bank accounts, which looks more credible than foreign accounts where their victims were directed last year. Slovenská sporiteľňa recommended people the child’s identity in such cases to check and not send money for emotional pressure until the parent is not sure that it is really his child.
