CNJ registers up 225% in the number of femicide judgments

The CNJ (National Council of Justice) registered an increase of 225% in the judgments of femicide cases across the country over 4 years. The number is part of the new, launched on Tuesday (11.mar.2025).

According to the survey, growth presented the following evolution of proceedings judged: 2020 (3,375); 2021 (5,351); 2022 (6,989); 2023 (8,863) and 2024 (10,991). The Council also recorded an increase in new cases judged considering the years 2020 (3,542); 2021 (5,043); 2022 (6,102); 2023 (7,388); 2024 (8,464).

Protective measures

Panel information shows an increase in the number of protective measures granted based on the Maria da Penha Law. The Brazilian judiciary reached 582,105 measures granted in 2024.

The average time of analysis of the protective measure by the judiciary went from 16 days in 2020 to 5 days last year.

Assessment

In the assessment of the president of the CNJ and the Supreme Court (STF), Minister Luís Roberto Barroso, the data is “stalking”And they will serve for the elaboration of public policies to protect women.

Femicide Law

Last Sunday (9.mar), the femicide law completed 10 years of validity. Sanctioned in 2015 by the then President (PT), the norm inserted in the Penal Code the crime of homicide against women in the context of domestic violence and discrimination.

In October last year, the President (PT) Sanctioned Law 14,994/24 and expanded the penalty for those who commit the crime. The penalty, which ranged from 12 to 30 years in prison, went to minimum of 20 and maximum of 40 years.
