Agro commentator Kellen Severo brings direct information from one of the largest agribusiness fairs in Latin America

Expodireto Cotrijal is one of the largest fairs in Latin America. More than 250,000 people pass here each edition of the event. There are 500 more agro exhibitors, from inputs to crops, livestock to new technologies. One of the main topics here in non-to-touch is the effect that drought is causing in Rio Grande do Sul. This year, the breaking of crop in the state is affecting the mood of producers, who are concerned. The Emater of Rio Grande do Sul pointed to a 6% break in the state grain production, with an estimated crop of 28 million tons.

The negative highlight is soy, with a 17% reduction in relation to the past crop, and a production of 15 million tons. There are areas that have harvested less than 10 bags per hectare, volume well below the average of 50 bags. Drought compromised production. This year, for the first time in history, the direction of Expodireto Cotrijal decided not to disclose the volume.

On Friday, a public hearing will be held here at the event to deal with the securitization of farmers’ debts that have been drought and flooding in recent years. No member of the federal government confirmed presence. The absence of the Minister of Agriculture, Carlos Fávaro, in the second big start of the year, was also felt. Expodireto Cotrijal runs until Friday here in Non-Me-Toque, in Rio Grande do Sul. The Agro sector once again seeks overcoming.
