Maria Elizabeth Guimarães Teixeira Rocha is the first woman to take office; ceremony, which promises to be a milestone in the history of the Brazilian judiciary, is scheduled for 15h
The president is present in possession of Maria Elizabeth Guimarães Teixeira Rochathe first woman to take command of (STM). The ceremony, which promises to be a milestone in the history of the Brazilian judiciary, is scheduled for 3 pm at the National Theater, located about 10 km from Planalto Palace.
Before attending the ceremony, President Lula has a schedule full of commitments at the Planalto Palace. The day begins with important meetings, at 9am, with the Minister of the Secretariat of Social Communication, Sidônio Palmeira, and the press secretary, Laércio Portela. Soon after, at 9:30 am, Lula meets Marcos Rogério, special secretary for legal affairs of the Civil House, and at 10am, with the Minister of Labor and Employment, Luís Marinho.
Still in the morning, at 11am, the president participates in the launch of the “Worker Credit” program. This provisional measure aims to release payroll loans for workers with a formal contract, and the event will be attended by ministers Luís Marinho and Fernando Haddad, from Fazenda. This program is one of the government’s initiatives to boost the economy and provide financial support to Brazilian workers.
Following the inauguration of Maria Elizabete Rocha, at 4:30 pm, Lula will meet with the president of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), Beto Simonetti, and at 17h, with Aldo Faleiro, assistant chief advisor to the Special Advisory of the Presidency of the Republic. Maria Elizabete Rocha, who was nominated by Lula to STM in 2007, assumes the presidency of the Court with a firm commitment to transparency, modernization, defense of democracy and policies of diversity and inclusion.
Among its priorities is the approval of an amendment proposal to the Constitution that allows the Military Court to have a representative in the National Council of Justice (CNJ). In a continuity gesture in the promotion of women to prominent positions, on the last International Women’s Day, March 8, Lula indicated the lawyer Veronica Abdala Estma for the position of Minister at STM, who still needs to be approved by the Federal Senate.
