Not every vegetable should be stored in the refrigerator. Most people, however, hide all food type foods with the hope that they retain their freshness longer. This happens in most cases, but some fruits and vegetables are an exception to the rule. Keeping at lower temperatures has a negative effect on them rather than a positive effect.

Which vegetables should not be stored in the refrigerator?

Not every vegetable likes low temperatures. In the refrigerator it flashes, faster mold, loses its taste and becomes faint. These vegetables are certainly better to store in a vegetable, in a cabinet or pantry. Importantly, they should not be stored in plastic bags, as they collect moisture that causes them to spoil very quickly.

The following vegetables are better not to keep in the refrigerator:

  • tomatoes and aubergines because they lose the taste and smell
  • cucumbers, zucchini and pumpkins because they soften and are watery
  • onion and garlic because they faster moldy and rot
  • As for the fruit, bananas should not be in the refrigerator, at lower temperatures much faster black and lose their strength as well as citrus because they lose their taste

Beetroot, carrots or parsley are usually bought in stock and therefore store them in the refrigerator. If you decide to storage, they should be inserted loosely, ie without wrapping in foil.   • Above all, you should fully renounce plastic bags that capture moisture and cause faster product spoils.
  • In addition, potatoes and onions should not be stored together as they spoil so faster.
  • Vegetables and fruits should also not be soaked before placing in the refrigerator – it is better to wash them immediately before use.
  • Apples and bananas secrete ethylene, which accelerates the spoiling of other fruits and vegetables, so they should be stored separately.
  • In addition, delicate vegetables should not be stored on top of each other.
