Unsemboshi plumsalso called Japanese are really ume fruit. On store shelves, we often avoid them, not knowing “what it is eaten with”. And unnecessarily, these inconspicuous fruits are a treasury of vitamins and fiber.

Unsembles have been known for centuries in Japan, where they are often called acidic plums. This has its justification – the fruit of Japanese apricot’s Ume has a tart and sour taste. They cannot be eaten raw, the more that in this form they contain toxic substances. So they require special preparation.

Toxic substances and sour taste are eliminated from fruit in the process of fermenting and solemnity. In the shops of the Marzeboshi plums are available in marinated or dried form, which not only deprives them of harmful substances, but highlights their taste and health properties. Dried UME fruit has a very intense taste, which is why they are treated rather as a spice.

Unsealed, Uzebeboshi plums hide many health properties. They contain large amounts of citric acid, which supports digestion and detoxifies the body. They are also a source of polyphenols and antioxidants that help fight free radicals and delay the aging process.

In the composition of Marzeboshi plums we also find calcium, potassium and iron, which supports bone, muscle and cardiovascular health. Thanks to the presence of natural enzymes and probiotic bacteria, Uzeboshi has a positive effect on the intestinal florasupporting digestion and strengthening immunity. In addition, they are low in calories: one marinated fruit is only 3-5 kcal.

An important action of Melaboshi plums is their beneficial effect on the liver. Their consumption helps to regenerate this organ necessary for our functioning. Recent studies have also shown that UME tree fruit inhibit the development of cancer cells. So it is certainly worth including these plums in your diet, although they are not cheap, because 150 g may cost about PLN 40.

Due to its specific taste, the marbles of Marzeboshi plums are rather an addition to dishes. Certainly they should not be eaten raw, moreover, in this form they are not available in our stores. How to eat Uzebeboshi plums?

  • With rice – Uzebeboshi plums blend in perfectly with white rice, especially in the traditional Japanese onigiri dish (rice balls), where one plum is put inside the rice.
  • In salads – Smiled into thin slices can be a great addition to salads, especially those containing vegetables with a neutral taste, such as cucumber, avocado or lettuce leaves. Their acidity will give the salad a unique character.
  • With pasta – Unsembles can be added to rice pasta or yourself, combined with vegetables, mushrooms and soy sauce. Umeboshi perfectly complement the taste of Umami.
  • Appendix to sauces – They can be crushed and added to sauces, especially those based on soy, to give them intensity. Ubeboshi plums will also work in meat and fish marinades.
  • From tofu – In combination with Tofu, Mebeboshi introduces a distinct taste, ideal for vegetarian or vegan dishes. Tofu can be immersed in Uzeboshi, soy and sesame sauce.
  • To sandwiches – Ubeboshi plums match whole -grain bread, especially in combination with smoked tofu, avocado or fresh vegetables.

It is worth remembering not to overdo it with the amount of these exotic fruits. They contain a large amount of salt, which in excess harms our body. Optimally eaten one to two Melaboshi plums a day.
