In southern Portugal, there is finally a long -awaited response for those traveling with dogs. For expatriates, especially those who choose the Algarve as a destination, and for autocaravanists who run through the roads of the region, living with a dog should be simple – but it is not always. While in other countries the offer of canine hotels and specialized training is common here, between vineyards and mounted, the reality is quite different. The spaces that welcome four -legged companions are scarce and when they exist, they are quickly crowded with long waiting lists.
Now, in the heart of Baixo Alentejo, comes a new concept that promises to change this reality. More than a simple hotel or training center is born a true refuge that respects the unique connection between dogs and their tutors. Here, animals are not just housed – they live an enriching experience. Each four -legged guest receives personalized attention and each training session goes beyond the learning of commands, strengthening the complicity between dog and owner. What is learned here is in the luggage as part of a shared journey.
At the head of this innovative project is Monique Boss, a canine behavior expert and founder of HS Lupo. Its mission also extends to the HFR-Wine Experiences & Memorable Events in Mértola, where it boosts regular sessions for the growing community of Autocaravanists who explores southern Portugal. The increase of travelers who bring their dogs with it is evident with each season, but the offer to respond to this need remains insufficient.
“The Algarve, a point of arrival of so many foreigners who choose Portugal to start over, feels even more this absence. The region, where tourism draws everyday and where expatriates seek roots, continues without a service that integrates training, accommodation and qualified follow -up for dogs. The result? Animals living in poorly appropriate conditions, families facing unexpected difficulties, expatriates forced to rethink plans ”, underlines Herdade Foz da Dam (HFR) in a statement.
“This new refuge in Baixo Alentejo emerges as the key piece to collect this gap. A place where, while owners explore the region or enjoy good wine, their dogs play, learn and socialize. Here, the trip is not interrupted for lack of options – it remains without startles, ensuring that each animal finds a safe environment and adapted to its needs, ”he adds.
Registration is now open, with flexible options and affordable prices. Because a good refuge should not be a luxury, but a right for those who need it. Between vineyards and landscapes to lose sight, this promise is fulfilled: in this space, the trip continues.
