The earthquakes around Naples are related to the Flegian fields, an area with high seismic activity. There are weak, barely noticeable shocks daily. Since 2012 there has been a yellow level warning. However, stronger shocks were also recorded. Last May, this area affected the strongest earthquake over the past 40 years with magnitude 4.4. The Italian government has developed new evacuation plans in response to these shocks and ordered better building protection.
