The wind warnings are valid for the districts of Bratislava, Pezinok and Senec, Dunajská Streda, Galanta and Trnava, as well as the districts of Poprad, Liptovský Mikuláš and Tvrdošín. Occasionally, the wind can reach a speed of 65 to 70 kilometers per hour (km/h), on average 45 km/h. “This speed represents a potential danger to human activities,” It reminds SHMI.
It can also be more windy in the mountains of central and eastern Slovakia. Alerts are valid for most of the Žilina region and districts of Banská Bystrica, Brezno and Poprad. In positions above about 1500 meters, there may be a gusty wind at a speed of 110 to 135 km/h, an average of 70 to 85 km/h, which is a whirlwind. “The expected wind speed is a potential danger to human activities, especially for hiking, mountaineering,” SHMI said.
