Slovakia appeals to Russia to very constructively deal with proposals for a ceasefire from Jidda and seeking a way to proceed to a peace negotiation. Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Juraj Blanár said it on Thursday in Warsaw at a press conference with Polish counterpart Radoslaw Sikorski. “Today it is absolutely crucial to start the ceasefire and the first step has already happened,” He said the Minister in response to the US and Ukraine agreement from Saudi Arabia. Ukraine agreed to the declaration of a 30-day ceasefire. According to the Minister, the EU also affects the situation with its sanctions and should be present in its solution.
“If Russia rejects the test, it will be clear who wants war and who peace,” Sikorski said. The Polish minister also said that the Slovak and Polish government responds to the challenges that Russia brings in a slightly different way, but they could better understand their opinions at the meeting.
Blanár at a press conference also stated that Poland is from a commercial point of view the third most important partner of Slovakia And Slovak investors are interested in the Polish market. Both ministers also focused on strengthening cross -border cooperation, revision of joint contracts, cross -border health cooperation and the situation in Ukraine.
Ministers agreed to open several older contracts between Poland and Slovakia, that do not take into account the current situation and to develop cooperation in the field of mutual provision of medical assistance in border areas. Blanár also supported the Carpathian Initiative – cooperation of border regions in Slovakia, Poland and Ukraine.
The head of the Slovak diplomacy welcomed the initiative of the President of the European Commission as part of the support of the defense industry and highlighted the agreement to strengthen cooperation signed in February by the Ministers of Defense of Slovakia and Poland. At the end of the press conference, Blanár thanked the Polish army for protecting the Slovak airspace, and invited Sikorský to visit Slovakia.
