During a press conference held this Friday (14), before the big decision of the Paulista Championship between Corinthians and Palmeiras, Abel Ferreira, coach of Alviverde, highlighted the importance of the confrontation and asked for respect between players and fans.
The Portuguese reinforced the dimension of the derby, but warned about the limits of rivalry.
“Derby must be one anywhere in the world. Of course we talked about two giant clubs, with huge fans. When this kind of game arises, not only you [imprensa] that excite and thrill our fans. We know the size and greatness of a derby like and Corinthians, ”the coach began.
The commander cited the movie “Romeo and Juliet” to reinforce the importance of a harmonious and respectful environment during the title dispute.
“I reinforce that sometimes it goes from the point, that teams respect each other on the pitch, that the fans respect each other, regardless of the rivalry that exists. One of the first films I arrived in Brazil was ‘Romeo and Juliet’, where exists and prevails independent love if I’m Palmeirense or Corinthian. There is a respect, that’s how I see it, ”he said.
Longer coach in Palmeiras history, Abel gave a strong speech against racism and violence in football, highlighting the role of the press.
“I have been in Brazil for five years, I have not been a Brazilian blood, but something that urges to eradicate in football: first racism, according to violence. This is something we all need to do. It goes through the coaches, the players and leaders, but the biggest responsibility is in the press. Choosing what you can pass and show to influence others, but derby will always be a derby, ”concluded the commander.
Abel Ferreira was accompanied by Ramón Díaz, Corinthians coach Weverton, Ángel Romero, as well as the referees.
