Pedro Severino, 19, a player of the base of Red Bull Bragantino who suffered a serious car accident, began the process of removing mechanical ventilation, allowing the patient to periods with spontaneous breathing, the new medical report released by Unimed Ribeirão Preto said on Friday (14).

The player is also currently without the need for sedatives. The hospital had already informed on the 7th that Severino presented “reflexes that correspond to the presence of brain function”.

The young man is still hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and his neurological condition remains severe, with clinical stability and maintenance of specific care for neurocritical patients, the hospital added.

The athlete suffered head trauma after a serious accident at dawn on the 4th, on the Anhanguera Highway.

Severino was in the car with a driver and colleague Pedro Castro, 18, who also plays in the base category of the Bragança Paulista club (67 km from Sao Paulo). The driver stated in testimony that he slept at the wheel.

Castro suffered minor injuries. He was in the back seat of the car at the time of the accident; Severino was in the front seat next to the driver.

Dr. Waldemar Tebaldi Municipal Hospital in Americana (SP), where the athlete was taken shortly after the accident, even started the brain death protocol, which confirms the loss of brain functions, but interrupted the process after “present cough reflection frame.”

On the 6th, the player was transferred to Unimed from Ribeirão Preto. The player is formed at the base of Botafogo-SP and had been loaned to Bragantino in February.
